Oxford Brookes University to launch Women's Mentoring Scheme
The purpose of the scheme is to encourage students to pursue a career in this male-dominated area, rather than abandoning technology after university, as many do. Female students often lack the confidence to apply for jobs in areas like IT or engineering, and would appreciate the chance to discuss the realities of such jobs with people who are already working in the field. Their mentor will provide a crucial link between university and working life, and may offer informal advice on issues such as job hunting, writing a cv and balancing family and career. Each mentor will be matched with a limited number of mentees with whom they will communicate for up to six months.
A website http://cms.brookes.ac.uk/mentoring offers the facility for new mentors and mentees to sign up to the scheme, and also includes links to career information and guidelines on mentoring.
